A chiropractic physician diagnoses and treats problems with the joints, muscles, and nerves of the body, most often in the spine, using hands-on treatment alongside exercise and rehabilitation instead of surgery or long-term medication. In Florida, they are licensed under Chapter 460 and can examine you, order imaging, and start your care after a car accident without a referral from anyone else.
At Injury Care Centers, our team is passionate about providing effective chiropractic care to help you move, heal, and feel your best. We know that back pain, neck pain, and joint issues can disrupt your daily life, whether they started suddenly or have been bothering you for years. Every patient who walks through our doors is met with genuine attention and a personalized approach.
Our Orange Park chiropractors work closely together and with other providers in our clinic to get to the root of your discomfort. We combine hands-on chiropractic adjustments with other therapies, when needed, to relieve pain, restore movement, and support your long-term health. Our collaborative approach means you’re never left navigating your recovery alone.
If you’re ready to take the next step toward feeling better, we’re here to help. Visit our Orange Park clinic for a thorough evaluation and a care plan designed around your goals. Walk in on weekdays or call us today; our team is ready to help you get back to what matters most.
A chiropractic physician checks how your joints and muscles are moving and pinpoints where movement is limited or painful. Treatment may include hands-on techniques, exercise, and other therapies that support your recovery.
Many people think of the adjustment, the controlled force applied to a joint that isn’t moving well, as the main part of chiropractic care. That popping sound is just gas releasing in the joint fluid, not bones moving out of place. Adjustments are only one part of treatment; most care also includes soft-tissue work, targeted exercises, gradual strengthening, and guidance on what you can do at home.
Our chiropractic physicians work closely with our medical team. If you need imaging, medication, or a procedure, you won’t have to start over with someone new; we coordinate everything right here.
Our chiropractic care focuses on musculoskeletal problems, and we want to be clear about which conditions we treat.
Neck. Whiplash and cervical sprain and strain, facet joint irritation, cervicogenic headache, and the neck pain that comes from a sustained working posture or a long commute.
Low back and pelvis. Lumbar sprain and strain, facet syndrome, sacroiliac joint pain, disc herniation and bulging discs, and sciatica, where a disc or joint is irritating a nerve root.
Mid-back and ribs. Thoracic joint restriction and the rib joint irritation that follows a seat belt load or a fall, which is often mistaken for something more alarming because of where it is felt.
Elsewhere. Shoulder, hip, knee, ankle, elbow, and wrist problems, including bursitis, tendinitis, and the movement restrictions left behind by an old injury.
What chiropractic care here is not aimed at is general illness. Our doctors treat injuries and musculoskeletal conditions, and we say so plainly instead of implying a broader scope. The full range across the practice is on our injury clinic page.
Some presentations point clearly toward a mechanical problem, and these are the ones worth bringing in.
Pain that changes with movement or position, and feels better in some postures than others, is often mechanical. Stiffness that’s worse after sitting or first thing in the morning is also a sign.
A joint that feels stuck at a certain point, a neck that turns farther one way than the other, or pain that always shows up with a specific movement, these are all things we can identify during an exam.
Headache that starts at the base of the skull and travels forward, particularly after a neck injury, needs examining. A meaningful share of persistent headaches after a crash are coming from the upper cervical joints instead of the head.
If you have radiating pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness, it’s important to get checked soon. These symptoms don’t always mean something serious, but they do affect how we examine you and whether imaging is needed.
Don’t ignore pain on just one side, especially if you used to feel balanced. Asymmetry after an injury often means one side took more strain, and restrictions left behind can come back months later, even after the initial soreness fades.
It’s important to know where chiropractic care has its limits, so here’s what you need to know.
Chiropractic care is not the treatment for a fracture, an infection, a tumor, an inflammatory arthritis in an active phase, or a progressive neurological deficit. Part of the examination exists to identify those, and identifying one means changing course instead of proceeding.
Certain findings mean stopping and referring on. Loss of bladder or bowel control, saddle numbness, rapidly progressing weakness, or unexplained weight loss alongside back pain all fall into that category.
Some patients need a modified approach. Conditions like osteoporosis, long-term steroid use, recent surgery, blood thinners, or certain vascular issues all affect which techniques are safe. That’s why your history matters as much as your exam, and why we ask about your prescriptions before beginning hands-on care. These aren’t reasons to avoid getting checked; they’re reasons for your first visit to be a thorough exam before any treatment starts.
Your first visit is longer than the ones that follow, because most of it is examination.
Your chiropractic physician takes the history first: how the problem started, whether there was a specific event, what makes it better or worse, what you have stopped doing. And what your previous injuries and general health look like.
Then the physical work. Posture and movement observed, range of motion measured joint by joint instead of estimated, strength and reflexes tested, sensation checked, orthopedic tests run, and the individual spinal segments palpated to find which ones reproduce your symptoms.
Imaging is ordered where the examination raises a question it can answer, not routinely. Digital X-ray is available in the practice, and MRI is at our University Boulevard South location in Jacksonville. What happens at your first visit is set out separately if you would rather know in advance.
Treatment usually starts at that first appointment once the examination is complete, along with a plan and a clear statement of what would change it.
Your first visit is longer than the ones that follow, because most of it is examination.
Your chiropractor will first ask about how your problem started, whether there was a specific injury, what makes it better or worse, and what you’ve stopped doing because of it. We’ll also talk about your previous injuries and overall health.
Next comes the physical exam. We’ll observe your posture and movement, measure your range of motion joint by joint, test your strength and reflexes, check your sensation, run some orthopedic tests, and gently feel your spine to pinpoint what’s causing your symptoms.
We only order imaging if your exam suggests it will help answer a specific question. Digital X-rays are available in our clinic, and we offer MRI at our University Boulevard South location in Jacksonville. If you want to know exactly what to expect at your first visit, we have that information available for you.
Once your exam is done, we usually start treatment right away and give you a clear plan, including what might change it.
Most people describe an adjustment as uncomfortable at most instead of painful. Your clinician explains what a technique involves before using it and adapts or replaces it if you do not tolerate it. Some soreness for a day afterward is common, particularly in the first week, and it behaves more like the ache after unfamiliar exercise than like the original injury.
Tell your clinician if anything is sharply worse afterward. That is not expected, and it changes the technique or the plan.
There is no requirement to have any particular technique. If you would rather not be adjusted at all, say so, and the plan gets built from soft-tissue work, rehabilitation, and the supporting therapies instead.
Frequency is higher at the start and drops as you take on more of the work yourself. That shape is clinical, not commercial.
Early visits address joint restriction and the guarding around it, while tissue is still remodeling and movement patterns are still setting. As range and tolerance return, the emphasis shifts toward loading, strengthening, and the exercises you do at home between appointments.
Chiropractic care sits alongside the rest of the practice instead of in place of it. Physical medicine and rehab cover the strengthening and progression side, and spinal decompression is used for disc-related presentations at the affected level.
We use supporting therapies like laser, shockwave, PiezoWave, TECAR, HEIT, electrical muscle stimulation, and therapeutic ultrasound when they’re appropriate for your situation. Which ones we include depends on your exam, not a pre-set package. We always review your plan based on your progress. If you’re not improving as expected, we’ll change the approach or investigate further, rather than just booking more visits.
It's always fair to ask what finishing care looks like. We’ll give you a clear sense of how many visits you might need before reassessing, what counts as good progress, and when it’s time to wrap up. If you don’t get a straight answer at the beginning, you probably won’t get one later either.
A short explanation of the anatomy makes the rest of a treatment plan make sense.
Your spine is made up of vertebrae separated by discs, with small paired joints in the back called facet joints. These facets help guide and limit movement, and they have lots of nerves, so even mild irritation can cause significant pain, even if nothing is seriously damaged.
Surrounding your spine are two muscle layers. Larger muscles handle movement, while deeper, smaller muscles keep each segment stable as you move. After an injury, those deep stabilizers can “switch off” and don’t automatically reactivate when pain goes away. That’s often why someone who felt better after a few weeks finds their pain returns months later, even if they haven’t done anything wrong.
That’s why exercise is a key part of your plan, not just an add-on. Hands-on care can restore joint movement, but only exercise rebuilds the muscle control needed to keep things moving well.
No, you can be seen directly, and our Orange Park clinic takes walk-in patients on weekdays. After a car accident, there is another point that is useful to know. Under Florida’s no-fault law, a chiropractic physician licensed under chapter 460 is one of the providers who can deliver the initial services and care your auto insurance benefits depend on. Those benefits are available only where the injured person receives initial services and care within 14 days of the accident.
Seeing a chiropractic physician within the 14-day window meets the legal requirement. Some people are told otherwise and miss out on benefits they deserve. For more details, check our crash-specific page on chiropractic care after a crash.
Orange Park has a single clinic on Wells Road, and Dr. Adam Francis is the chiropractic physician who covers it. That needs saying plainly, because it changes what your course of care looks like here.
Continuity is a big advantage here. The same clinician who sees you at your first visit will check your progress at follow-ups. There’s no need for someone new to interpret old notes or guess at your starting point. In larger practices, continuity takes extra effort; here, it’s just how we work.
The practical consequence is that appointment times matter more. A single-clinician clinic has a finite schedule, so booking your follow-ups a week or two ahead helps at the first visit instead of week by week.
Dr. Francis also covers our Mandarin clinic in Jacksonville. If that location is more convenient, we can easily arrange your appointments there, and your chart goes with you. If you need medical care like imaging, injections, or prescriptions, our medical team covers all locations and works from the same treatment plan, so you’re never handed off to a different practice.
Some symptoms need an emergency room instead of any clinic appointment.
Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room for loss of consciousness, a headache that keeps worsening, repeated vomiting, confusion or trouble speaking, numbness or weakness in an arm or leg, loss of bladder or bowel control, severe or quickly worsening pain, chest pain, or trouble breathing.
Clay County’s trauma center is HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital, a Level II facility.
If you’re just feeling stiff, restricted, aching, or not recovering as you expected, an exam is the next sensible step.
Being straight about the limits makes the rest of the page more useful, so here is the honest version.
Chiropractic care won’t permanently straighten your spine or move bones back into place. Discs don’t “slip” and vertebrae don’t get pushed back into alignment. What treatment does is restore movement, calm irritated tissues, and rebuild the muscle control that keeps you moving well.
Chiropractic care can’t undo age-related changes like disc height loss or arthritis—these are permanent and common, even in people without symptoms. What we can treat is the irritation, stiffness, and loss of control that develop on top of those changes—often making the difference between feeling good and feeling uncomfortable.
It’s also not a substitute for medical care when a medical problem is causing your symptoms. Part of our job is to spot these situations and refer you to the right provider if needed.
And chiropractic care isn’t meant to last forever. Some people choose occasional follow-up visits, which is fine, but you should never feel pressured into indefinite care without a clear reason or other options.
Most of the work in a course of chiropractic care happens when you are not in the building, which is not what people expect to be told.
After your first visit, we’ll usually give you just two or three exercises to do at home. We keep it simple on purpose: three exercises you’ll actually do are more effective than eight you won’t.
Your home exercises will change as you get better. Early exercises restore movement and calm things down. Later ones rebuild deep muscle control, and eventually you’ll practice movements that match what you need to do in daily life.
We’ll also give you specific advice based on your exam, not just generic tips, about things like how you sleep, how you get in and out of a car, and how long you sit before moving. These details matter more when a part of your spine is irritated.
Tell us honestly if you have not been doing them. A plan that is not being followed and a plan that is not working look identical on paper and need completely different responses. And only you can tell us which one we are dealing with.
It depends on how you were hurt. After a car accident in Florida, your own auto insurance covers medical care as long as you are seen within 14 days, and a chiropractic physician can provide that initial care. For a work injury, workers’ compensation usually applies and has its own rules about which doctor you see. For everything else, health insurance is the normal route.
We see patients with or without insurance. If you do not have coverage, call 904-783-0008 and ask about our Affordable Plans.
Bring whatever cards you have to the first visit, and our team will explain what applies to your situation before treatment starts.

Chiropractic care means attending several times over a period, so pick the appointment slot you can actually keep. Over the course of care, that choice is what decides whether you finish it, and finishing it is what decides whether the problem stays fixed.
No appointment needed on weekdays, and after-hours on-call assistance with our doctors is available.
No, you can be seen directly, and our Orange Park clinic takes walk-in patients on weekdays.
Most people find it uncomfortable at most. Your clinician explains what a technique involves beforehand and adapts it if you do not tolerate it.
It is appropriate for many crash injuries once fracture and other serious causes have been excluded, which is what the initial examination is for.
Not routinely. Imaging is ordered when the examination raises a specific question it can answer.
It depends on the findings and how you respond, and it is tracked by repeating your baseline measurements instead of a set number.
