Myofascial release is a hands-on technique that involves applying gentle pressure to tight muscles and fascia in an effort to release them and alleviate pain. The technique focuses on pain from myofascial tissues, the tough membranes that wrap, connect, and support your muscles.
Tight fascia can restrict muscle and joint movements, which contributes to widespread muscle pain. Fascia fibers in your body are designed to glide over one another during movement. An injury or repetitive action can cause them to thicken, become inflamed, and restrict the fascia network. During a myofascial release session, an Injury Care Center therapist will apply gentle, sustained pressure to knotted or balled up fascia to release stiffness, alleviate pain, and restore motion.
